Mars: upper atmosphere.
The thermal structure of the upper atmosphere of Mars has been theoretically investigated. The exospheric temperature, for a pure CO(2) model atmosphere, lies between 400 degrees and 700 degrees K. The origin of the Martian atmosphere is discussed in the light of these results.
متن کاملNegative ion chemistry in Titan’s upper atmosphere
The Electron Spectrometer (ELS), one of the sensors making up the Cassini Plasma Spectrometer (CAPS) revealed the existence of numerous negative ions in Titan’s upper atmosphere. The observations at closest approach ( 1000 km) show evidence for negatively charged ions up to 10,000 amu/q, as well as two distinct peaks at 2274 and 4478 amu/q, and maybe a third one at 82714 amu/q. We present the f...
متن کاملMariner 6: ultraviolet spectrum of Mars upper atmosphere.
Emission features from ionized carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide were measured in the 1900- to 4300-angstrom spectral region. The Lyman alpha 1216-angstrom line of atomic hydrogen and the 1304-, 1356-, and 2972-angstrom lines of atomic oxygen were observed.
متن کاملThe structure of the upper atmosphere of mars: In situ accelerometer measurements from mars global surveyor
The Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) z-axis accelerometer has obtained over 200 vertical structures of thermospheric density, temperature, and pressure, ranging from 110 to 170 kilometers, compared to only three previous such vertical structures. In November 1997, a regional dust storm in the Southern Hemisphere triggered an unexpectedly large thermospheric response at mid-northern latitudes, increas...
متن کاملMars Global Surveyor and Mars Odyssey Accelerometer observations of the Martian upper atmosphere during aerobraking
[1] Mars Global Surveyor and Mars Odyssey accelerometer measurements of martian upper atmospheric densities reveal the large-scale and small-scale structure of the thermosphere in unprecedented detail. Meridional density gradients, which are seasonally dependent, are greater on the dayside than the nightside, indicating stronger meridional winds on the dayside. Density scale heights do not vary...
